Type Locality and Naming

It was named by Lin Baoyu in 1981. The type section is located at the hill ridge, west of the road, 12 km north of Yongzhug Township, Xianza (Kangsangdobdê) County, the Xizang Zizhiqu.

Synonym: (扎弄俄玛组) ; Mengdeeyue Fm -- The Mengdeeyue Fm, once had been considered as the overlying strata, is actually a synonym of Zhanongema Fm (Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources of Xizang Zizhiqu, 1997).


Lithology and Thickness

It consists of grayish white medium- to thick-bedded dolomitic limestone. It is 32 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The formation conformably rests onto the underlying Dewukaxia Fm

Upper contact

The formation conformably rests below the overlying Dardong Fm of early Devonian

Regional extent

It is 76.5 m thick at 4 km north of the Daerdong Section with no considerable variation in lithology, lithofacies and faunas. It is only exposed in northern part of Xianza County.

Fossils

The formation yields abundant conodonts, mainly being the Pterospathodus amorphognathoides zone and the Spathognathodus sagitta bohemicus zone.
